Boat pics

When i read each post and you explain how you have fixed this, modified that, re-manufactured the other.....i wounder how the fcuk it ran in the first place.

This post will be a great selling point if you ever decide sell it.

Summer is around the corner, hope you and your family get plenty of joy from it.

Any nuts and bolts left over after you've put it all together? :)

Most of what I've written about are just normal concerns when rebuilding an engine, but yes there were issues that prompted me to rebuild it.

Definitely not regards the engine itself. Heh, there aren't many bolts you could leave out of the inside of an engine and not have it self destruct soon after starting it. It's unlikely I'd leave any bolts out from anything else either such as the bolts that connect the bellhousing or mount it all in the boat, it's kind of too obvious where they all need to be fitted.

Having said that the correct answer should have been yes, the old head bolts, because I fitted new ones.

The engine is back in :)

Still loads to do to finish the install but at least it's back in the boat.

Oooh ! It's getting nearer to the BIG DAY. (Start engine to test it) Any idea when that will be Simon?
If we get much more rain you won't have far to take it for a test launch. ☔ 🚤
Much will depend on work, if I find anything else wrong or run into any problems and the weather mate. So far today's weather has been a mix of sunshine, heavy clouds, rain and the occassional heavy hail shower!

I've just checked the raw water pump because I was suspecting a problem with that but it seems OK. Currently doing some prep work for an LPG conversion.

Slowly getting there between working on LPG conversions and a lot of Elgrands

Bank holiday Monday but fixed the LPG conversions on a couple of Elgrands converted by other firms today, then attached the power steering pump on the boat engine.

The engine is nearly done now :) Just got the carb to rebuild and fit, plugs and plug leads, dizzy cap to fit and belts to fit, a few bits and bobs for PCV but I might yet fit the carb before I rebuild it.. hopefully it's in good condition anyway and if I don't rebuild it before trying to run the engine I won't need to be concerned about messing up mixture screw settings etc.

I intend on pumping the fuel out of the fuel tank (30 gallons worth) into my Elgrands fuel tanks and in the process (by pumping through the boat fuel filter and fuel pump if possible) flush boat fuel system components through. I might even fit a 'gas carb' (LPG carb) instead of the Holley because the American Impco 'gas carbs' come preset to run correct mixture and running on LPG the engine doesn't need a choke and there's no chance of a too rich fuel mixture diluting the oil film on the engine cylinders, but that would still be some way off converting the boat to run on LPG because to do that I need to properly fit LPG gas tanks in the boat.

I didn't spend any time tidyling the outside of this engine but hopefully I've built it with good internals... Then if it runs OK I could always decide to pull the engine again to tidy it up, paint and polish it etc. But the trim and rear seats were a pita to remove and I expect will be a pita to refit, so if the engine runs well I might not remove it to polish up its outside, though at least I'll know it's all good inside.
